Core Team vs Performance Team

Calgary Freeriderz offers a progressive pathway for passionate young freestyle skiers. The Core Team builds strong fundamentals, competition experience and a love for freestyle and freeride skiing, while the Performance Team provides a proven pathway for athletes pursuing Canada Cup, NorAm and National Team goals in Slopestyle, Halfpipe, and Big Air.

The Core Team is the foundation of the Calgary Freeriderz athlete pathway. It’s designed for athletes who are developing their skills, building confidence and beginning to compete at the provincial level, with a pathway toward their first Canada Cup. Through regular trampoline, airbag, strength and conditioning, on-snow training and competition coaching, athletes develop the technical ability, consistency and experience needed to progress to higher levels of skiing.

As athletes demonstrate the skill, commitment and readiness for more demanding training and competition, they may be invited to join the Performance Team. Our high-performance program is built for athletes ready to compete across the Canada Cup circuit, pursue podium performances at Canada Cup and North America Cup events, and work toward the long-term goal of the Canadian National Team.

Freeride: Where it All Started

While we have a reputation as one of Canada’s top high-performance Park & Pipe programs, a love for Freeride and Big Mountain skiing is at the core of CFRZ.

Our Freeride program is currently focused primarily on the introductory and developmental levels. Our goal is to continue growing the program, providing athletes with quality coaching and opportunities to compete at local events, with the potential to expand beyond the local level in the future.

Long Term Athlete Development Model

Calgary Freeriderz is a strong supporter of Freestyle Canada’s LTAD model for developing high performance athletes.
